RE: Buy an used Class C motorhome with bunk beds

bon jour,
there are class c motorhomes with bunks but they are very hard to find.
You might want to try this website
http://www.rvsearch.com/findrv/
I believe Four Winds use to make a bunk model (might be four bunks in the back though)
It is not a very popular layout.

Cross Country

We just got back from a 1 month tour from NY to Yellowstone and back.
I want to thank all of the people here who gave some good advice for our big event.
We were keeping an informal count of RV's on the road and it seemed that motorhomes were the predominant method of camping (2 to 1 over 5th wheels, trailers or pop-ups). In the motorhome category it seemed that A's and B+ were more popular than your standard C's.
I guess the high price of gas did not keep everyone at home.

RE: buying used class c

There has been a significant increase on ebay with motorhomes for sale. Prior to this summer it was hovering around 200 units. Now it is like 300+.
Try there to get some ideas.

RE: Where do you take your MH for service?

I take mine to a guy in town who happens to specialize in working on trucks. He is also an RVer so we spend a lot of time talking about that as well as what is needed.
His prices have been fair and way below the dealer.

Route 89 North out of Yellowstone

We are heading up for a few days at Fishing Bridge in YNP and will be leaving next friday to Interstate 90 in Montana. We came in the East Entrance from Cody, WY and did not have any problems and we came down on 89 to Jackson.
So my question is how is RT 89 North out of Yellowstone. Similar to the roads I had coming in?
thanks

RE: What small cars tow well?

We tow a 5 speed Honda Civic (2003) all four down with a Ford e450. Shasta is the class c.
Have had no problems towing it. We use the roadmaster sterling tow system with a brake buddy.

RE: Heading to Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone

We are actually doing the same trip but leaving this weekend from Long Island NY.
We are going out on 80 up till Illnois and then scooting up to route 90 for the way out. Coming back on 94 through Wisconsin and taking the ferry over to Michigan, through Canada, to Niagara and down through NY state.
Things that we are seeing along the way: Corn Palace, the Jolly Green Giant, Cedar Point, a Winnebago factory as well as all of the national parks along the way.
We'll be back before you leave so we can give you the up to date scoop.

RE: New guy to the C class

Congrats,
When I was a kid we had a Monaco that looked just like that. Does this unit have Bunks?
It was a great motorhome.

Mounting of Break away switch

Getting ready for our big cross country trip and have gotten around to our break away switch.
Three years ago when we bought our rig I had the Brake Buddy system installed in my Toad (a 2003 Honda Civic). They mounted the break away switch on the bottom of the car on the nearest metal they could find. Well it only took me about 3 months to ground in off when entering a low driveway. The people who make the Brake Buddy sent me a new switch free but I never had the time/remembered to do it.
I have towed the car 3 years without the switch but now I am a little worried knowing that there are some big mountains out west.
My questions:
1. Do I really need it? I think a lot of things would have to go wrong for it to engage (although I do suffer from Murphy's Law).
2. If I do need it, can I mount it higher in the car so it does not get ripped off again?
opinions are welcome

removing weather stripping

The weather stripping that is suppose to give a 'tight' seal between the frame of the screen door and the doorway opening seems to be a bit old and crumbling away at the bottom.
I intend to replace it so took a stab at the bottom piece (worse condition). Well... when I tried to remove it the sticky backing remained on the frame and I could not get a nice clean surface to apply a new piece of weather stripping.
Any suggestion to remove the plastic film and sticky stuff

Installing pleated shades

For some reason we have a metal mini blind shade above the headboard of our rear queen bed. Everytime we toss and turn at night you can hear it when we bump into it.
I just ordered a pleated shade from CW and am wondering if anyone out there has done a similar replacement and had any tips - warnings.
Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for new tires and Confused

The tires on my class C are Firestone LT225/75 R16 Load Range E.
I think they are original to the unit which would make them about 6 years old. They have about 25,000 miles on them.
I am planning a 4,500 mile trip this summer out west and was seriously considering replacing all of the tires (big bucks I know).
I have searched the forums and have gotten a lot of hits but not the answers I was looking for.
Specifically:
- what would be the best load rating for a class c
- which company has the best reputation with its products for these types of tires
- do I really need to replace them with only 25,000 miles
- are there any other things that I should be concerned with
thanks

Camping in Michigan

Towards the end of July I will be heading back from Yellowstone NP and will be traveling on the SS Badger from Wisconsin to Ludington, MI. I then plan to head towards Niagara.
I had heard of some great camping along the Michigan shores and am hoping I will be able to count on Forum members with suggestions.
thanks in advance

RE: Slide Thumps When retracting?

I had a thumping problem after a repair on my slide. I do not know all of the correct terminology for the part but on my slide out there was a bar that drove the non-engine side of the slide out that ran parallel to the side of the coach. A gasket was loose and this bar was smacking the inside of the fiberglass wall.
I took it back and they fixed it

SS Badger from WI to MI

Anyone take an RV on the ferry crossing from Wisconsin to Michigan? I just checked their site and see it will cost a pretty penny so know I will have to convince the DW (and myself) that it is worth it.

Routes into Yellowstone or jackson

My wife and I are planning the 'big trip' from the east coast to Yellowstone and Grand Teton Area.
We got as far as Buffalo, Wyoming and are curious about the routes into the area. We have a Class C with a toad.
We see three options:
#1. Going up through Sheridan on RT 90 and then down on 89 through Gardiner into YNP.
#2. Go through Sheridan and then into YNP on route 14 and then 14/16/20
#3. Go through Worland on rt 16 to Riverton then 26/287 and 189/191 to Jackson.
I am not looking for a white knuckle ride.
Thanks
